Tom Lucas is Sad About Girls

Tom Lucas

He’s worked with members of The Cucumbers (Hoboken), The Catholic Girls (Union), The Bongos (Hoboken) and The Accelerators (Union) but mostly Tom Lucas is Sad About Girls (South Orange). Singer-Songwriter Palmyra Delran (Princeton) has been playing the new Sad About Girls song, “She’s Not Here,” on her show at SiriusXM’s “Little Steven’s Underground Garage.” It’s also had a few spins on WFMU in Jersey City.

“She’s Not Here” is a perfectly pulsating piece of power pop. Pow! It hits hard like when I first heard “Go All The Way” by The Raspberries in 1972. At one point in the song, Tom Lucas says “HIT IT” and his lead guitarist, Robert Wojciechowski, of The Insomniacs [Englishtown], spews forth a sonic burst of energy. When asked about this particular moment of the song, Lucas says, “I’m very happy you dig it. We had a lot of fun making that record. I liked yelling that and Bob played a great solo. And that’s Pete Horvath from The Anderson Council [New Brunswick] singing the back-ups with me.” It’s a Jersey thing, man.
