BUT CAN THEY DO IT LIVE?

We’ve been documenting the recent jams of The Royal Arctic Institute—from Weehawken in Hudson County—in this space of late. Their combo of fried sizzle gumbo, fusion funk, soundtrack-style weirdness and instrumental alt-pop has always tickled our fancy. But, the question remains, can they do it live? Well, we’re going to find out as the RAI will support the vinyl release today of From Catnip To Coma To Catharsis by performing at four record stores on two August Saturdays.

It starts tomorrow, August 5, at 2:00 p.m. in New York City’s Chinatown at Love Not Money, after which they’ll pack up and head to Brooklyn for a 6:00 set at Record Grouch. Jersey City’s Fox and Crow (not actually a record store) will host them and Seawind Of Battery on August 17. Two days later, they’ll be at Revilla Grooves in Milltown in Middlesex County at 3:00 before heading off to Denville in Morris County for an 8:00 set at the Sweet Vinyl Café.
