VAKILI BAND,
“FATHER’S SON”

Rock’n’Roll!! Lead singer Lili Vakili is a Harvard-educated political activist super-mom bio-tech attorney. The band filmed this clip at the First Congregational Church in her Montclair hometown.

KATIE HENRY,
“ON MY WAY”

This Sussex County songstress is hot! She’s on her way alright! Her second album—On My Way—is filled with the kind of rockin’ Americana that’s capturing the ear of more than one generation. Hailing from Vernon, she’s a multi-instrumentalist who can sing up a storm and totally command the stage.

DALEK,
“DECIMATION (DIS NATION)”

Dalek is a politically charged rap duo from Hudson County. MC Dalek and Mike Mare have made seven albums in 25 years. Heavily influenced by Public Enemy, their eighth, Precipice (Ipecac Recordings), due April 29, is one of the most anticipated rap albums in the country. In the meantime, feast on this.

ANDY FEDIW,
“FROM HERE TO THERE”

Kinderhook Creek was a hot country cover band back in the day when the drinking age was 18 and the clubs across the state were booming every night of the week with every imaginable genre. Director Fulvio Cecere captures the scene magnificently in the upcoming six-part docu-series “The Jersey Sound” devoting an entire episode to that heady era. They shortened their name to Kinderhook in 1976. One of the band’s original members, Andy Fediw, is from Bloomfield and has released a beautiful album—Unfinished Business—of original music.

MARTIN WIND,
“MY ASTORIAN QUEEN”

Teaneck bassist Martin Wind goes beyond providing the bebop bottom. On the new Air CD, his New York Bass Quartet with three other bassists—Jordan Frazier, Gregg August and Sam Suggs—is a rarity. Still, Wind performs with a number of configurations as seen here from the hallowed hall of the Deer Park Inn, situated in the Delaware Water Gap on the border of NJ and PA.

From the bragadocious highs to the melancholy loneliness of urban life, T. Shan never loses sight of where he and his family came from: the Far East, West Coast and East Coast.

BLEACHERS,
“STOP MAKING THIS HURT”

Jack Antonoff, 37, the Bergenfield singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist, leads Bleachers, is influenced by David Byrne, and has written and produced for the biggest names in pop music including Taylor Swift, Lorde, St. Vincent and Lana Del Ray.
