All Systems Go
"Everything Going Well Is A Bad Thing, Right?"

A peppy piece of pop-punk, this precedes Finding Closure (due Feb. 19), the new EP from All Systems Go, a band out of Delran in Burlington County. The clip was masterminded by the uber-talented Ryan Hanratty, a singer-songwriter whose magnificent job editing The Jersey Sound documentary makes me want to see every video this young man does.

Squanderers
“Theme For Silent Cowboys”

Kramer—from Bergen County—is the eclectic eccentric mastermind of Squanderers whose If A Body Meet A Body is their debut on Kramer’s Shimmy-Disc label.

Ricky Byrd
“Rhapsody In Blues (One For Jeff)”

Ricky Byrd, the former lead guitarist of Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes, is also a Rock’n’Roll Hall of Famer from his time with Joan Jett & The Blackhearts. This is his heartfelt instrumental tribute to Jeff Beck. His NYC Made, due March 28, is on Little Steven’s Wicked Cool label.

Beau Jarred
“Everyone Says Hi”

Alt-Folk’s Melanie—who lived and went to high school in Red Bank (Monmouth County)—and who skyrocketed to fame after Woodstock in 1969, died last year at 76. She was working on Secondhand Smoke, a covers album of songs she loved from the likes of Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, Depeche Mode, Morrissey, The Adverts, Ash and David Bowie. Her son, Beau Jarred, has now released a tear-stained version of “Everyone Says Hi,” from Bowie’s 23rd album, Heathen, in 2002.
