Dave Davies of The Kinks To Appear at Bookends in Ridgewood
The Kinks, The Stones and The Beatles are the three greatest British rock bands. Don’t look now but there’s a Kink in our midst. Lead guitarist Dave Davies—who wrote and sang two of the best Kinks songs (“Death Of A Clown” and “I’m Not Like Everybody Else”)—will be signing copies of his 2022 memoir June 1 at 11:00 a.m. at Bookends in Ridgewood, Bergen County.
During the British Invasion of the 1960s, Dave Davies always had the longest hair and was always the problem wild child. His high harmonies to brother Ray’s acerbic tales of degradation and his darting, searing electric solos were always a true delight. “You Really Got Me,” in 1964, set the template for Hard Rock. The hate between the brothers fueled their artistry. The song has been covered by Metallica, Van Halen, Iggy Pop, Toots & The Maytals, Mott The Hoople, The London Symphony Orchestra and dozens of others.
“In his autobiography, Davies revisits the glory days of the band that spawned so much extraordinary music, and which had such a profound influence on bands from The Clash…to Oasis and Blur. Full of tales of the tumultuous times and the ups-and-downs of his relationship with his brother Ray, along with encounters with the likes of John Lennon and Jimi Hendrix, this will be a glorious read for Kinks fans and anyone who wants to read about the heyday of rock ‘n’ roll.”—Hachette Book Group
