Dave Stryker Releases New Album, ‘Prime’

Dave-Stryker

Guitarist/Composer/Producer/Educator (Montclair State University) Dave Stryker, 65, has released 32 albums in 35 years. Prime is the first with his working trio of the last 12 years, his fine-tuned machine (as evidenced by his incredible set opening for Steely Dan last summer.)

Back in the bad old days of pandemic 2020, he kept his promise to perform when everything was closed down by streaming a set (one of the first artists to do so) with organist Jared Gold and drummer McClenty Hunter. He took this opportunity to write Prime (the only cover on the album is a gorgeous reading of Sinatra’s 1945 hit “I Should Care.”) Recorded in Paramus at Trading 8s Studio, Prime is a deep groove of satisfying licks, buoyant solos, funky asides and straight-ahead jamming.

Mike Greenblatt

MIKE GREENBLATT has been writing for Goldmine magazine and New Jersey's Aquarian Weekly for more than 35 years. His writing subjects fill the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
