Patriarchs In Black Cover Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song”

Patriarchs In Black Immigrant Song

Patriarchs In Black—former Type O Negative drummer Johnny Kelly and founding Hades/Non-Fiction guitarist-composer Dan Lorenzo—have released their second Zep cover this year. “Immigrant Song” has the Paramus riff-master Lorenzo churning out that familiar riff. It comes on the heels of “Friends” in February, their first Zep cover featuring vocalist Militia Vox of Judas Priestess.

“Johnny and I have finished all of our parts for the second Patriarchs In Black album,” says Lorenzo. [That effort isn’t due until October on a German label, MDD Records.] It’ll have 10 new originals but we do love recording covers. `Immigrant Song’ is not the easiest tune to tackle for vocalists and a large handful of singers gave it a shot. Nothing seemed quite right until Mark Sunshine of Unida and Riot God nailed it. He’s an artist’s artist. Bassist Eric J. Morgan called our version a `runaway freight train.’ I like my guitar to be loud but I told engineer J-Rod to crank his bass on this one. It’s pretty loud on the original but Eric positively CRUSHED the chorus.”
