In what’s being publicized as a “Super-Collab Rock Collective,” This Wild Darkness has released the second single (“The Wild Darkness”)—the first single was “Dawn Rider”—from The Notorious Memphis Rains EP, a five-song concept EP landing Friday. Scotti Hill, from Toms River—Ocean County—band Skid Row, known to shred bigtime electric shrieks, plays some subtle slide guitar on the project. You wouldn’t even know it’s him. His feel is a haunting approximation of classic old-west ambiance. The juxtaposition of soft acoustics and crisp electric passages certainly signal a change-of-direction for Hill, 60, born Scott Lawrence Mulvehill in 1964 Manhasset New York. “I couldn’t have been more flattered when [vocalist] Tommy [Marz] asked me to contribute to this record. It’s been so much fun!” Other participating musicians include Arion Salazar (Third Eye Blind), Chuck Bartels (Sturgill Simpson), Jack Hues (Wang Chung), Jeff Schroeder (Smashing Pumpkins) and Slim Gambill (Lady A).
