The Roots of Willow Layne’s New Album Run Deep

They’re calling the 11 originals on Willow Layne’s new album “a heartfelt Americana collection of hope, healing, roots, family, faith, love and loss.” The Roots Run Deep (Bongo Boy Records, out of Blairstown in Warren County), is heavily influenced by the sounds Layne—real name: Lisa Benedetto—grew up with in West Orange as her parents turned her on to Glen Campbell, Bobbie Gentry, John Denver, The Everly Brothers and Frank Sinatra.

Layne says of her album, “It’s where we came from, the people who shape us, and the strength we find through life’s journey. I hope these songs remind listeners that even through loss, love and hope always endure.”

Her sister says she’s so proud of Lisa and “amazed by everything she has poured into this album. It’s been two and a half years since we lost both our parents just three days apart. The songs contain meaningful moments of our childhood, a lifetime of family stories, and the challenges of the present day, the quiet echoes of the final three months of their lives. The memories and emotions that lie beneath the surface of these songs are deeply personal to me, while leaving room for every listener to find their own meaning.”
